Movies: documentaries, Rushmore, Citizen Kane, Singing in the Rain, Godfather, To Live, Seven Samurai, Wizard of Oz, Brokeback Mountain, The Matrix, Devil Wears Prada, Gosford Park, Fargo, Brazil, A Room with a View, Crimes and Misdemeanors. (I also have a soft spot for sci-fi and superheroes.)

Food: I love food! I can’t think of anything I don’t eat! Ok, maybe I don’t do well with bugs, BUT I have eaten beetles (on a stick), worms (in an omelet), and scorpions (deep fried), all in China, of course. I’m eating more like a vegetarian these days.

Books: I like non-fiction like the museum catalog for Yoko Ono’s retrospective show from a few years back, Ursula LeGuin’s translation of the Tao Te Ching, and Thich Nhat Hanh’s Understanding Our Mind. Family photo albums. Right now, I’m reading Lewis Hyde’s The Gift.

Hot Spots: In town I like the St. Paul Farmers’ Market, Walker Art Center, the MIA, the University Club, Meritage, Heartland, Pho 79, Punch Pizza, and Mirror of Korea. Out of town I like the Boundary Waters, San Francisco, L.A., New York, Hong Kong, China, Paris, and Italy.
